Thanks to all of those who participated in BK2HK’s prescription eyeglass donations for Guatemala. People such as the generous Mayan woman who gave me this purse as a gift can continue to work on such beautiful sewing projects thanks to better eyesight. The women from the villages sew many beautiful things. They sew the clothing for their families, and also sell many of their items for income. Without the eyeglasses donated to BK2HK, many (1,730) people would not be capable of continuing their trade. BK2HK will have further information along with photos of the Gary family’s trip, so stay tuned!
Thank you again and remember, BK2HK will continue this collection for next summer’s trip to Guatemala, so please save those prescription eyeglasses/sunglasses/and drug store glasses and send them out to us! Our goal for next summer will be 2,010 pair of eyeglasses for the summer of 2010! We can do it!
Update 11/4/2010: Eyeglasses are no longer being collected. Thanks to everyone who has made a donation.
We’ve found a great way to help our service men and women. Many have had to adjust to a whole new way of living, some have lost arms or legs, some suffered terrible burns from the war. Please be so kind as to donate an AT&T International Calling Card (they LOVE to call their friends overseas), a store gift certificate (Target, Sears, J.C. Penny, Kohl’s) or a gas gift card (the soldiers families use the gas to transport the soldiers to the stores ect.) or a Visa Gift Card to the address below.
Thank you so much!

Meijer Department Store on Jackson Road in Scio Township, Michigan, was gracious and generous enough to award BK2HK a $250.00 Gift Certificate to be spent for items needed at the Robert J. Delonis Center for the Homeless, Washtenaw County!!! Debbie Locke-Daniel, Executive Director of the Ypsilanti Area Convention and Visitors Bureau went on a fabulous shopping spree with the gift certificate in hand and purchased a wide variety of wonderfully warm and cozy outer wear for the homeless.
It was a great day and a very rewarding one too! Debbie spent $250.09, almost to the penny of the gift certificate!! What a terrific job Debbie! There certainly are going to be a lot of very warm folks out there this winter thanks to your help!!!
