The Need for Blood Continues…Especially in the Summer Months.

Our summer may be coming to an end soon, however the need for blood at your local American Red Cross Center is still necessary!

If it weren’t for my new prosthetic knee which was put in this past February, I would be continuing to give blood every 56 days. So please be so kind and save a life by donating blood!

Thank you and enjoy the rest of the summer!

Locks of Love

I was sitting in my hair salon, Dazzlz Spa Salon and noticed a young lady who took a seat next to mine. She had very long pretty hair, I would guess that her hair nearly reached her lower back.  I complimented on how pretty her hair was, and she said that she was getting it cut off for Locks of Love. I thought, wow…what a nice thing to do! To top it all off she told me that this was her third donation through Dazzlz! I spoke with Maryanne, the owner of Dazzlz Spa Salon and she said that her business has been involved in collecting hair donations for Locks of Love for many years! Dazzlz Spa Salon has been in business for 23 years.

Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the U.S. and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

Please check out the links provided, and perhaps you may wish to donate your hair for Locks of Love!

Maria Helps the Homeless in “Tent City”

This is Maria, and she is taking up a collection of clothing, blankets, coats and goods that her local homeless community can use. Maria is a friend of mine who enjoys going that extra mile for others, including strangers. The help which she provided for our Guatemala Eyeglass Collection was immeasurable! Now Maria took it upon herself to start up a collection for the homeless people living in what is termed “Tent City” in Lakewood, N.J. These people have lost jobs and work, and have found themselves homeless, living in a make shift development of tents located in a wooded area.

Thanks Maria for being such a positive influence by showing what the power of one person can do to help other people!

Why not seek out your local homeless shelter or food bank, perhaps a local church which assists the homeless. Homelessness affects every state in our nation, so I am sure that if you seek out the less fortunate in your own communities you will find them. Lend a hand, lend an ear, share unwanted blankets, boots and coats. Volunteer one day a month at the food bank. It means so much to those in need, and it will bring you much gratification!

Be kind and be ready because kindness is contagious…kindness is addictive.

Dig THIS…Over 122 pair of Sunglasses were donated to BK2HK for Guatemala…

Update 11/4/2010: Eyeglasses are no longer being collected. Thanks to everyone who has made a donation.

Here is the story…short but very sweet. I was browsing around on Craig’s List and I spotted someone selling over 100 pair of sunglasses for $45.00. I e-mailed the owners and asked if they would be willing to donate them to BK2HK for our Guatemala project. Their answer was a huge yes! My daughter and I drove to their home to pick up the sunglasses (plus 14 cases) and met 2 extremely nice people! Ron and Nancy Gosselin of Howell, Michigan were more than happy to be able to donate all of these wonderful sunglasses to the folks in Guatemala!!

Ron and Nancy were so generous to donate so many (much needed) sunglasses to Guatemala. Thank you both! I want to pass on the word that BK2HK is continuing our used prescription eyeglass/sunglass and drug store reading glasses collection. There is always a team heading off to Guatemala to deliver much needed items, eye wear being on the top of their list…so please remember to send any and all used unwanted eye wear to the address below. Thanks!
